Historic
Miniatures
Founded originally as 'Elizabethan
Model Buildings' in 1981 by Jon Price, the company was re-named
and re-launched as Historic Miniatures in 2013.
Jon was working in 1981
for a local timber frame builder, who specialized in dismantling
oak barns (of which there were many back then) and re-assembling
them as fine Timber Framed homes.
Making models in 1/12th
scale was a way for Jon to work on the many Timber Framed properties
that he would otherwise not have access to and to give him the
opportunity to practice and develop his skills and interest in
what was at the time a dying art.
These days there is renewed
interest in Timber Framing, not only as an innovative form of
'green' building technology, but as a timely need to preserve
the few remaining historic buildings that still exist in The
United Kingdom.
Nothing could be more true
of Herefordshire where Jon now lives and works. Not only is the
county a place of outstanding natural beauty, but it is steeped
in history. What better example of that history is there than
the many historic Timber Framed Buildings that are dotted around
this county and for that matter the whole of the UK? All of which
still exist as a living testament of the (almost) lost art of
the Timber Frame Builder.
What better way is there
to record such buildings than a superbly crafted and unique scale
model or dollshouse? All of which are Historic Miniatures.
There will never be a shortage
of fine examples to model and preserve as 1/12th scale dollshouses.
That has always been Jon's goal and passion and remains his driving
ambition in life.
